The 5G spectrum auctions are underway and there are reports the network will be rolled out, at least in the main tier cities, by September/October. Airtel, Jio, Vi, and Adani Groups are the top bidders, unsurprisingly. Jio is apparently the top bidder with around Rs 80,000 crore, thanks to the 700MHz band. The telecom operators have been conducting 5G trials for the past few months across the country. In the latest development, Vi has announced that it recently conducted a 5G trial at MG Road Metro Station, Bengaluru.
Vi 5g claims that it has managed to achieve a 1.2Gbps 5G download speed on a mobile handset during the testing. Besides Bengaluru, the telecom giant has conducted trials in other major cities like New Delhi International Airport, Bhopal, and Kandla Port in Gujarat.
VI 5g (Vodafone Idea) trials
Vodafone Idea (Vi 5g) has recently conducted 5G trial on the use of street furniture for Small Cells and Aerial Fiber deployment. Electric poles, bus stands, traffic lights, etc are classified as street furniture and these are used for testing 5G small cells. During this test, Vodafone Idea claims that it has managed to achieve a 1.2Gbps 5G download speed on a smartphone
Vodafone Idea ( vi 5g ) claimed that it had achieved a peak 5G speed of 3.7GBps during its testing in Pune Maharashtra at September 2021. It has recorded a peak download speed of up to 1.5Gbps in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar. Vi in November 2021 announced that it had achieved an average speed of 100Mbps in a rural area in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
The telecom giant had used Nokia’s E-band MW (microwave) network for the trial. Airtel in a similar trial had achieved a speed of 200MBps throughput at a distance of over 10 km from the site. The telecom operators have been conducting various 5G trials in the last couple of months. Reliance Jio has managed to achieve a download speed of 420Mbps and an upload speed of 412Mbps in the 5G speed test in Mumbai.
